The work of Paulo Freire has had a profound impact on the work of liberation theologians. But the liberative perspective of Freire’s critical pedagogy is not as often reflected in the work of religious educators and others who are responsible for the faith formation of Christians. This course, therefore, provides religious educators and scholars of religious education with a thorough grounding in critical pedagogy as a tool for thinking about the liberative potential of religious education and pastoral ministry. The course is particularly relevant for the MRE, MTS, and MDIV programs; AD programs in religious education, pastoral ministry, and liberation theologies as well.
